Small Craft Warning is a New York City-based "Dead-style" jam band, but they are not a cover band. They have developed an original repertoire of jam tunes which draw their inspiration from the Hunter/Garcia songbook - mixed with a dash of their own unique medicine, of course.
The fact is that there are precious few original jam bands. There are many Dead cover bands, and a whole generation of "groove/electronica" bands. BUT, there are few bands that have really pursued the Grateful Dead's twin aims of crafting thoughtful, timeless songs while simultaneously creating in-the-moment, mind-bending improvisational music. Small Craft Warning is the needle in the haystack!
Small Craft Warning has played across the City of New York and beyond, including shows at Brooklyn Bowl, The Bitter End, 89 North (Patchogue), Kenny’s Castaways (r.i.p.), National Underground, and Spike Hill (r.i.p.), and has shared bills with a number of rising stars in the NYC jamband scene, including Dead On Live, Chromatropic, Grant’s Tomb (feat. Mike Bafundo), the Rusty String Band and Glowing Skull Ring (feat. Joe Gallant, founder of Illuminati Orchestra).
The band plays both acoustic and electric shows and has been spending some time in their studio lately, adding some new tunes to their acoustic setlist.
